7-Year-Old Calls 911, Saves Family From Attack
Gunmen broke into the boy's home Tuesday morning and announced that they would take whatever they wanted, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Steve Kenny said.

The boy and his 6-year-old sister hid unnoticed in the locked bathroom while the suspects threatened his mother and father at gunpoint.

"There's some guy who's going to kill my mom and dad," he said breathlessly. "Bring cops. A lot of them! ... And soldiers, too."

The suspects eventually broke into the bathroom and someone screamed. The 911 operator sounded shaken as she explained what happened to her colleagues.

Kenny said the suspects grabbed the boy and asked who he called. He responded, "911." The gunmen fled without taking anything or injuring the family.

"If not for the brave and educated actions of the 7-year-old boy, this might have ended tragically," said sheriff's Capt. Pat Maxwell.

The three men remain at large.
What appears to have happened here is a home invasion. Drug related? It wasn't mentioned.

It used to be the norm that if somebody wanted to steal from your home they waited until you were gone, as you inevitably will be, and then took their time. Now it seems more normal to confront you and, so long as you aren't in a position to resist, relish the confrontation. This even as crime on the whole has declined.

I note that this seems to happen more often in states which have attempted to disarm the law abiding (criminals never obey any law unless it serves their purpose) but we have had home invasions here in Virginia. We lack a "castle doctrine" law here (it was again killed by our liberal/Democrat Senate) but by and large our prosecutors (Commonwealth Attorneys) don't persecute where legitimate self-defense occurs and Virginia has a high rate of gun ownership and about 250,000 concealed handgun permit holders.

Rather than spend the money on studying cocaine addiction in monkeys perhaps some of that "stimulus" money might be used to discover that many young people aren't given a good grounding in moral or ethical behavior.

For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.
