Iran's Ayatollahs don't mind killing fellow Muslims...
The big cheese Ayatollah gave the people more than one choice for President. It isn't as if it would really matter, right? I mean the President of Iran has as much power as the U.S. Senate minority leader, right? Then why do the Iranians think the election results are important enough to risk, even lose their lives? Must be something to it.
Mousavi isn't really much better than Ahmadinejad (sp?) but he ran has being a moderate. THAT moderation is what the people wanted. It is what they are demonstrating for. It is why Neda died. It is why untold numbers of Iranians were killed today.
The world over, people don't like abusive, corrupt governments. They might be in a position where they can't do much about it but they don't like it. Then, when they can do something or recognize that there is a point of no return, they do do something about it. This is what is starting in Iran.
The Ayatollahs won't accept that though. They are going to fight to the bitter end, believing all the while that in doing so they will go to paradise. Many more Nedas will die because of that fanatical intransigence.
For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.
