  Who IS George Soros?
I was listening to talk radio the other day and looked at the Drudge Report and at the same time, again, there was that name, George Soros, self-loathing socialist multi-billionaire.  We are told he's the man behind Al Gore's global warming fraud, John Kerry's campaign, and perhaps the Messiah's puppet master but we, or rather I, don't really know who George Soros is. So, I thought I'd try to find out.

Knowing how unreliable some internet information can be I pressed ahead with a Google search and found the George Soros web site. But his short biography
George Soros is Chairman of Soros Fund Management, LLC and founder of The Open Society Institute. He was born in Budapest in 1930. He survived the Nazi occupation and then fled communist Hungary for England, where he graduated from the London School of Economics. He then settled in the United States, where he accumulated a large fortune through the investment advisory firm he founded and managed. Mr. Soros has been active as a philanthropist since 1979.
seems rather empty of explanatory detail. Why would a man that "survived the Nazi occupation" be so intent on returning socialist government? "Survived" implies an unpleasant experience, certainly not a condition/circumstance to be repeated. Further investigation is necessary.

For one thing, Mr. Soros was a student of Karl Popper. Professor Popper was an advocate of liberal democracy. The United States of America has a liberal democracy with a republican government and a written constitution. It is important to note that Popper was a member of the Academy of Humanism and described himself as an agnostic, showing respect for the moral teachings of Judaism and Christianity. In trying to understand Mr. Soros, this facet of his teacher's beliefs might be important.

One incongruity is that Mr. Soros was (is?) a hedge fund manager.
From 1963 to 1973 he worked at Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder, where he attained the position of vice-president. Soros finally concluded that he was a better investor than he was a philosopher or an executive. In 1967 he persuaded the company to set up an offshore investment fund, First Eagle, for him to run; in 1969 the company founded a second fund for Soros, the Double Eagle hedge fund.
Frankly, I thought the Democrats thought hedge funds and their employees were evil. Perhaps this isn't far removed from having a KKK leader as a leading US Senator. Then I found this
Soros is the founder of Soros Fund Management. In 1970 he co-founded the Quantum Fund with Jim Rogers, which created the bulk of the Soros fortune. Rogers retired from the fund in 1980. Other partners have included Victor Niederhoffer and Stanley Druckenmiller.

In late 2006, Soros bought about 2 million shares of Halliburton.
Halliburton, another icon of evil for the Democrats and their major funding source, George Soros owns 2 million shares? Is that not contradictory and/or incongruous?

Mr. Soros has contributed substantially to resist totalitarian regimes in the former Soviet Union and Africa. He also backed a new political fund raising group called Democracy Alliance which aims to support the goals of the U.S. Democratic Party. It seems, to me at least, that that which he opposes elsewhere, he supports in the United States. Why?

This consistent incongruity, supporting republican democracies elsewhere while supporting those who seem bent on destroying our republican democracy, making BILLIONS of dollars in a capitalist system and apparently using millions of his own dollars in opposing that system, being a survivor of a murdering, totalitarian dictator and government but, again, supporting those who would like to move this country in that direction is simply beyond my understanding.

I think we need to understand this man's motivation. I think I need to do more research.

For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.

Whoop-ti-do, the forum for the rest of us...
