Hawkeye Cawkeye (or Vote SHMOTE)
Iowans, after an interminable windup, finally got together to discuss, vote, and express their opinions on the candidates for POTUS. Mrs. Clinton didn't do so well there but then what does that mean, really? I think it means she needs to be meaner, as the Clintons usually are, and get back to her roots in the politics of personal destruction. That said, Barack Obama has apparently hit a nerve. However, a socialist is a socialist is a socialist. Whether it is Mrs. Clinton, Obama, or Edwards makes not a bit of difference. The results on the Dem/S side of this bear that out. While Obama had 38% Edwards and Mrs. Clinton weren't all that far behind with 30% and 29% respectively.
Then there were the Republicans. Now that is interesting. There was a much bigger gap between the leaders and the also rans. However, about those also rans...
Fred Thompson (aka "my guy" because I think he's the only true conservative AND because he's only doing this because he's been begged to do it) did really well despite not even trying that hard. No money, little effort, good results. Mike Huckabee also did the deal on a shoestring and WON in Iowa. Together, these two guys beat Mitt Romney's butt but good. That man spent tons of money and time and really made little headway in attracting actual support. Wonder why? If not, you should.
And then there was McCain, Guiliani, and Paul. Let's face, McCain is a pro-war liberal as is Guiliani. These two guys epitomize RINO (Republican in Name Only). Both are anti-2A and McCain is anti-1A (see McCain-Feingold election "reform"). They stepped up and did their duty when it was required but they lack values I look for in a POTUS candidate.
Dr. Ron Paul is a nut. While he talks the talk he doesn't walk the walk. He is absolutely against the one thing that the POTUS must support and that is national security. He is against the war on terror, in Afghanistan, in Iraq, and defending the border. Oh, yes, he finds a border fence "offensive". He is the single worst argument for the Libertarian party that there is (and if you didn't know he is there former POTUS candidate). For a "conservative constitutionalist" he's a real disappointment.
Ok, I'll end my comments on this subject. It just makes me upset without resolving anything.
