- Let's start with Mrs. Clinton's birthday. Today is the day she turns 60 and last night Mr. Clinton (the former POTUS) threw her a lavish birthday party at which Chelsea Clinton stood uncomfortably as the two stood upon the stage giving audience to those who donated about $1.5 million.
- Iran says they are safe from attack. This comment was predicated on reports that and supposedly veiled threats of attack by the USofA because Iran won't stop their development of nuclear weapons. Well that and the recent non-attack on a Syrian nuclear facility in EASTERN Syria that completely avoided and/or neutralized all Syrian air defenses which just happen to be exactly like those deployed by Iran. The Mullas are likely shaking in their robes while at the same time they can't shut up their "trained" attack dog Ahmadinejad. For what it is worth we will be at war with Iran immediately following their attack on Israel. I'm betting that if they use a nuke we will, too (or is that two...).
- Wildfires in California, at least some of which were set, again provided empirical evidence that one can't build flammable homes next to flammable forest and expect everything to be hunky-dory. One has to expect that there are deviant criminals who'd just as soon start fires as not. While I applaud the community spirit that dominated the news (in direct contrast to New Orleans) I have to wonder at people who can build earthquake proof buildings but not fire-proof buildings. Actually they can. If I might suggest the Monolithic Dome house, with a concrete exterior and steel storm shutters these would be impervious to wildfires. This would be especially true if they cleared the flammables back 100 feet from any structure.
- O.J. Simpson is going to jail with all his criminal assiciates ratting him out.
- Something is terribly wrong when a 7 year old boy commits suicide.
- Oil hit $92 a barrel but gas (locally) didn't go over $2.65 a gallon...
- The DOW Jones industrial average has gone up and down on the basis of the mortgage crisis, oil prices, the falling dollar and the endless number of things that either scare or comfort investors. Today it is rebounding a bit. I know some folks are worried but it was around 11,000 at the beginning of the year and when I was a kid 1,200-something seemed to have been the norm.
- I can't find a single new-release movie that I want to see. Don't see any on the horizon either. Might be a long weekend...Labels: Culture
