  Favorite Artist - Loreena McKennitt
This is the first of a planned series of gushing fan type posts about my favorite artists, musical and otherwise. Their political stances are unimportant to me but I have noted that I am not drawn to the many traitors we have in current American culture. I hope you enjoy.

The ethereal, beautiful voice of Loreena McKennitt has been a favorite of mine since I first heard her. While most folks are familiar with "The Mummers Dance" from "Titanic" she's released many other works and been around for over 2 decades. I like the fact that she is so personally involved with her music beyond the performance. Unlike many singers, she's apparently content to sit out whole songs because it isn't just about her voice. I like her music. I like her voice (and I prefer, most often, the female voice). I like her presentation. I have a couple of CDs and these are what I play when the car radio is too irritating. Of her songs, "Dantes Prayer" is a big favorite.

DANTE'S PRAYER
Words and music by Loreena McKennitt

When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone

I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and fire

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me

Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars

Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Please remember me

It is one of those songs that can mean many things to many people. Mauser*Girl had one take.

And there are other videos on YouTube as well, enjoy...

For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.
