Interesting take on life from J. K. Rowling
You know, the author of the incredibly successful Harry Potter series of books that have become movies. Well, I only watch the movies, I can't stand reading fiction. Anyway, I saw The Order of the Phoenix last night and noted a couple of interesting points.
#1 - When the government of the witches and wizards wanted to control them they started by denying the right to self-defense. In this case they literally took away their weapons by not teaching them how to use the spells but clearly, the allegory is direct.
#2 - When denied the weapons of self-defense the population (students at Hogwarts) went underground.
#3 - The tyrannical government found no end of eager volunteers to enforce their edicts.
#4 - The tyrants put on a pretty, happy face while torturing the defensless.
I can see how Ms. Rowling's books have attracted so many fans from so many countries. They must be much more detailed than the movies and they suffer little in the translation to film. I wonder how many worldwide have been forever affected by some of the concepts she's used. I should add that one tag line is that evil must be confronted. I think that applies to our current situation.
