I am currently supporting
Scott Sayre, Republican for State Senate in the 24th District. Why? Because he's for lowering taxes and supporting gun rights. Incumbent
Emmett Hanger is, too. Well he says he is. Thing is he's voted, pushed, and talked for increased taxes. He's done what he can to give, let me emphasize that,
GIVE tuition in state institutes of higher education to ILLEGAL ALIENS (aka illegal immigrants, aka NON citizens). he hasn't pushed to eliminate the "car tax", he hasn't fully supported the
VCDL's legislative agenda especially on such things as the restuarant ban and he is telling a fib in his radio ads. When he says that
Sayre is supported by special interest groups from outside the district he would be more truthful to say that he, Emmett Hanger, is getting
his support from outside the district. Sad to see an Officer stoop so low...
Now, I hear that elected officials have broken with the Republican party committees in their respective places and endorsed Emmett Hanger. I have to wonder, why? Why support somebody that those who might help you get re-elected and who got you elected don't want? Why go against possible political support. Certainly, you don't think the Dem/S will support you, do you?
I suppose that this was coming. Here in Staunton real estate assessments
jumped by 35% this year. E.g. my home is assessed at $280,000! I bet I couldn't sell it for $180,000. But, did city council drop the tax rate so that the total revenues would be close to last year's? Oh, no,
they did NOT! Taxes are going to rise, drastically. I suppose that they are hoping that since most homeowners now pay their property taxes through their mortgage escrow accounts they won't notice that they are being screwed (one could almost say, royally screwed).
One of the reasons given for the needed revenues is that the money is needed by the school board. Yet, Staunton lags behind every surrounding community in teacher pay and benefits and has a declining school population. What is going on here?
Despite huge turnouts in every community because of this issue, in every community the elected officials have opted to ignore the citizens and keep those taxes rising. Something isn't right here. Perhaps we need a whole new set officials...
