My wife and I went to see the movie
300 a retelling of the Spartan stand at Thermopylae. This oft told tale of duty, honor and country has reverberated across 24 centuries for a reason. Yet there are some that think that this particular retelling (first published in 1999) is somehow a pro-Bush propaganda film.
My wife thought that was interesting as she immediately saw the connections to our current crisis. From selfless sacrifice in defense of the nation to the political intrigues of those seeking after wealth and power for themselves without regard to the nation (traitors), the movie does indeed speak to our world. But, this story has spoken to the strengths and frailities of people for centuries. It seems that some folks fear that they will be exposed for what they are by comparison to the characters in this movie. If only it would...
