  Crazy Cat Captured
Meet Grumpy - the nastiest cat on earth, which might be true but was worries me most is that these subjects of the crown waited 4 months, yes months to have the cat caught and removed. I'd have done it myself after 4 seconds...

  Katrina Aftermath
Lots of buzz about the anniversary of Katrina. All the complaining seems to come from New Orleans. I'm afraid that while I feel badly for the people who live there I recognize that it was their votes that put in place the government at the state and local level that can't accomplish anything.

My wife and I had been through the gulf coast just prior to Katrina and went across on 98 this summer as well. What a difference! But, in Mississippi, the trash was mostly cleaned up while in Louisiana it was mostly still there. My wife is from the Pensacola area and noted that nobody is talking about Ivan and that aftermath. They are still recovering from that and a follow-on Cat I the next year. Ivan of course was 2 years ago.

Those folks chose to live there, they chose to have their houses as and where they are and they took a chance. Some lost. That's life. Life is to be tested and to learn. Do so and go on.

  A Bit Sad
Whenever I see our young men and women serving, and I don't care what they are actually doing, I just feel so proud of them and also a bit saddened that I'm not doing my share.

As you know if you've read my profile, I'm a retired US Army NCO. I served 27½ years and did everything from Intel work with language and as an analyst to logistics, personnel and was an infantry platoon sergeant. I've been an operations NCO at Brigade level, acting First Sergeant, well, you name it. I served in the good old Republic of Korea for a total of 4 years and 9 months and I've had some special training here and there. But, I've also been retired for over 5 years now (the Army's cut-off for volunteering for recall to active duty). I understand that a LOT has changed as we've reorganized, retrained and, at least to some extent, re-equipped to meet our current threat forces and so I understand that I would need retraining in order to be deployed. But...

I'm also very thankful to be able to get up in the morning (and maybe not in the middle of the night, to sleep in some days, to be cool when it is hot outside and warm when it is cold, to see my grandson and children, to take in a movie with the wife (or not my choice) and to care for my aging mother.

So, what is a bit sad? That I don't see many other, darn few actually, people who are as conflicted as I am. They are unabasadley happy that it isn't them or their kids, or any family member over there. They have no concept of the heat, humidity, long duty hours, personal privations, the sacrifices of time with family, the continuous threat of attack, even the loss of comrades to wounds or death. Yet, they are willing to belittle the efforts made, the progress accomplished, in order to attack the President. Their President, who has kept them safe. They complain about an economy which continues to lift the poorest of our nation into the top 1-2% of the world in personal wealth and luxury. They are so very fortunate and at the same time can't realize how blessed they are. That is what is sad, and more than a bit...

  Global Warming, Cooling, What?
Global warming boost to glaciers,
Are Global Warming Solutions Possible?, EPA's Global Warming Site, Global Warming: early Warning Signs, Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Ice Age gives clues to global warming: study, Greenland's glaciers have been shrinking for 100 years: study, World to be even hotter by century's end and on and on and on.... What do you believe? Why? Do you not think that the planet has a natural cycle? Just how much do you think we can affect that cycle? Why?

Survivor Tribes to be Divided Along Racial Lines
CBS's long running, 13 "seasons" now, show Survivor has now been to the Cook Islands AND the tribes divided along racial lines. Apparently Asian, Caucasian and Black tribes will compete (at least until the merge, aka desegregation). Much is being said, mostly against the idea.

I don't think it is a big deal. Apparently the liberals (can I characterize Burnett as a liberal?) still think this race is such a big deal that the controversy about the racial separation will bring viewers back to the show. I think the hot chicks are the attraction for most male viewers. I bet Burnett thinks so as well since they've never tried Survivor-Antarctica. Women, well, if most are liberals (and there is some evidence to dispute that) then maybe this will help their numbers. We'll see.

The scenery might be nice as well...

Do Something about Iran or DIE

Overstated? I don't think so.

1. Iran has been working towards the creation of a nuclear weapon.
2. Iran has been lying about the fact that they are working towards the creation of a nuclear weapon.
3. Iran is run by radical religionists (aka mullahs) who chose the current President himself a radical religionist.
4. President of Iran calls for destruction of Israel even at the risk of the destruction of Iran.
5. President of Iran has stated he eagerly awaits the end of the world and coming of the "secret Imman".
6. President of Iran has called Israel the Little Satan and the USofA the Great Satan.
7. President of Iran was one of the college students who seized the American Embassy in 1979. He acts on his radical beliefs.

I think it is clear that this man wants to kill all of us and doesn't care if his own people die in the attempt. That's dangerous.

Do I Need to Go Back to School or How Many Planets in the Solar System?
Jeez. Just when I thought I knew SOMETHING I'd be able to teach the grandkids! I've got to re-look this and see if I understand.

Because Pluto is of a certain size and has an orbit which we now know intersects that of the next furthest planet it doesn't meet the criteria for designation as a planet. The international scientific body who sets these standards has given Pluto an honorable mention and will now refer to it as a dwarf planet. So, how many planets does our solar system have?

Would you believe that this and Jon Benet Ramsey's confessed (likely falsely confessed) killer have taken our collective eyes off Iran and North Korea's attempt to blackmail the rest of the world?

Don't Vote Republican and get What you DON'T Deserve
Kim du Toit has it right. We might not be happy but the alternative sucks big time. Worse actually, it would be like putting a bullet in your grandchildren's brains. The Democrats are not only singly unprepared and incapable of dealing with the terrorists and Iranians and Kim Jong-il now, but they are making a deliberate effort to purge anyone in their party who might actually be capable of making a rational decision. This isn't about being nice, kind, fair or, well whatever is PC, it is about DESTROYING OUR ENEMIES. They are trying to come together now even while cautiously eyeing one another. China is courting Chavez/Venezuela while Iran/Syria are using their surrogate Hezbollah to attack Israel and distract the world from their nuclear work so that they can get THE bomb and destroy Israel and they don't CARE IF THEY DIE, TOO! Do you folks not understand? The real message to send is to vote STRAIGHT Republican. Show the suicide politicians of the DNC that you won't have the Guyana koolaid they're serving. I think we deserve to live, don't you?
Looting Guardsmen Prosecuted, Convicted and Punished
... AS THEY SHOULD BE! Thanks to Xavier or I'd not have known about this even with my automatic newslinks/searches.

These people ought to be shot but they are fortunate in that they will have the remainder of their natural lives (being discharged they don't have to do the right thing fighting the islamofacists) to consider their selfish, immoral, stupidity.
Where ARE the Kidnapped FNC Journalists?
Does anyone know? Care? Heck, I've not even seen anything on Fox News! Ticks me off. Journalists. Of course they are just rabid westerners to the Hamas/Hezbollah/AlQueda crowd.

I got het up on this from a Michelle Malkin post via Lawdog.

What really bugs me is that that stupid, self-promoting, Sheehan is still getting press about her un-real hunger strike/fast.

Fox News is reporting that Al Jazeera has reported that the previously unknown Holy Jihad Brigades is claiming responsibility (likely a cover for some other group) and demanding release of unspecified Islamic prisoners in the U.S. in the next 72 hours or...

  Woman Ready for Released Rapists
I hope they are stupid enough to try to make good on their threats and get what they REALLY deserve. Victim stands ground - If rapists seek revenge, she'll be ready

However, it is really sad that these folks are forced to face this.

One Congressman Backs Down on Haditha
At least one Congressman has seen the error of his ways. Congressman makes apology to Haditha marines Minnesota Republican Rep. John Kline, a retired Marine Corps colonel, issued a three-paragraph statement under a deal with lawyers for Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, one of the Marines under investigation.

Is it any wonder that enlisted men and women see officers as mostly putting themselves in an elite class rather than as a group who simply have a different role to play? In every case, McCain/Murtha/Kline, these folks were officers. Now, I'm not one to hold a grudge. In fact, there are many good officers who serve their country and not themselves first but, every once in a while, ok, more than every once in a while, an officer shows himself to be the ass the priveleges have made him. Sad to say and very sad to see.

Note: To those who'd like to point out that officers must score over 110 on the GT and have completed college, there's LOTS more enlisted folks who meet those qualifications who are never commissioned. Also, there are lots of officers who barely meet the requirements just as most doctors didn't graduate in the top 50% of their class...

I like drumming. I particularly enjoy martial drumming and wadaiko or taiko and the Korean equivalent (start an argument about which came first? not me). Some examples...

Taiko at Ala Moana (2005) (pick your file size), Drum Machine (cartoon), Japanese women's group (definitely not work safe), Korean Drum Dance
  Am I Silly?
I've just gotten back from a bus tour of part of the Southwest USofA. From Salt Lake City to Moab to Durango to Sante Fe. Got to see some absolutely beautiful scenery and, as always, meet some wonderful folks. Today, I'm thinking, am I silly?

Am I silly,
- to want to physically preserve this country?
- to want to preserve our economic security?
- to want to preserve the LIVES of these wonderful people that I met?
- to love my family and want to keep them safe?

Apparently, I am silly. Ok, maybe not silly, maybe stupid or selfish? Must be. Even Israel has acquiesed to a cease fire that will likely be nothing more than yet another opportunity for a Hezbollah to re-arm and re-organize for yet another go at Israel and US!

Must be. Condoleeza Rice, the US Secretary of State, has been encouraging this course of action.

Must be. Connecticut's Democrats selected a rabid socialist, anti-US, anti-war candidate over the far-left-of-center Joe Lieberman!

Must be. Iran is threatening us and we aren't ready to nuke the whole darned place.

Must be. The press is still paying attention to Cindy "Mother" Sheehan and her fake hunger strike.

Let's put it another way. A nation, a country, is nothing more than a really big team made up of all its citizens. No team can win if the players aren't wanting to win. Our side doesn't seem to want to win. If we don't want to win, we won't. The result of that is everything I don't want.

Silly me?

Iran's despot of the moment has promised that the USofA will pay and I think it is more likely that that statement is true than the statements made that they don't want nuclear weapons (which they have, themselves, contradicted). Well, I'm upping my stockpile of consumables like food and bottled water just in case that there is a disruption of the distribution of food, electricity, and so forth.

Silly me?

  Joe Lieberman
Much has been said by certain conservative talk radio guys about how sad it is that a great guy like Joe Lieberman has been dumped in the primary for a radical leftist like Lamont. Anyway, I have to say that this is a good thing.

See, this is who the Dems are now. They are radical, they are socialist, they are anti-American/USofA, and they are bad for the USofA. Most voting citizens know this. Non-voters, who cares? They don't care enough to take 30 minutes out of one or two days in the year to vote. All they are doing is using up oxygen, food, and couch-in-front-of-TV-space. Joe, you see, is one of the most liberal of the liberal but he knows that it does no good to be a liberal in control of a country being destroyed by the islamofacists. Not all the libs/socialists are quite that aware.

So what do I think will come of this? Well the Dems are crowing now but will have to eat crow in the fall. Joe L. will beat them and the Republican candidate. MOST US citizens want to be safe and they KNOW the Democrat/socialists won't keep them safe.

  Catching up...
I've been gone to the Four Corners area and not posting or even reading/listening to the news. A lot seems to have happened without really changing anything. We did discover that Qana was probably all faked (anyone surprised?), the Israelis are willing to get a real buffer zone, the UN thinks they can create a buffer zone, the UNIFIL troops don't think so but are game to try, Secretary Rice has done her job and gotten no credit, the POTUS has IDed what needs to be done but is still ridiculed, there's a thing about August 22nd (I've got a dentist appointment on the 21st so at least I'll have clean teeth for TEOTWAWKI), and I'm reunited with my dog.

I was on a bus tour that went from Salt Lake City to Moab to 4-corners to Durango to Silverton to Durango to Chama to Antonito to Sante Fe to Albuquerque. Had to listen to some mountain climbing egotistical hippie decry the POTUS environmental record and some totally ignorant old farts applaud the comment. Had to deal with airlines who apparently no longer care if they are on time or if you make your connections (although the pilots give lip service to the idea). Had to deal with airports that think you enjoy packing your wife over 2 miles from one gate to another through crowds of people trying in vain to make THEIR connections. Had to deal with an irrational fear of bottled sodas and water. I think it will be another 6 years or more until I fly. I bet that helps the airlines.

Met some nice YOUNG folks (hell, I'm almost to the point that anyone NOT on a bus tour is YOUNG folk). Getty Lee Desmond, I guess you get to see your name in print on the net! Getty (or is it Getty Lee?) is a river/rafting guide and aspiring culinary expert. Best of luck to him, he's got the public relations bit down pat. You have to give two thumbs up to any young man who can row 7 miles, tell you everything about everything along the river, get you wet without generating one complaint and nearly dump you in the river to accolades for his "daring".

Of course he wasn't the only one. There's the fiery (can I say that?) young blonde waitress at Christina's Bar & Grill in Durango who had to deal with our tour's resident jerk (and owner/operator of a five-star "French" restaurant). That girl should appear beside the definition of "poise". What a trooper!

Still, we come back home and find that Olmert is going to accept the UN's proposed resolution (hell, they already had one they couldn't enforce) to create/maintain a buffer zone so that the terrs can't rocket (easily/cheaply anyway) Israel. Still not going to help Lebanon's government maintain its soveriegnty or disarm Hezbollah (spelling du jour) or bring the light back on Iran's insane President and nuclear policy.

The big news on the flight home or rather FOR the flight home was the plot apparently centered in the UK to smuggle liquid binary explosives on airplanes. This resulted in the banning of ALL liquids as carried by passengers. We also heard that Ipods, cell phones, and laptops (and other electrical gear) were banned in the UK and Europe. Might as well stay home and ban wrist watches. Why not just arm ALL passengers and put a camera in the toilets for monitoring. At least the rest of us wouldn't have to suffer for these few hell-bent (literally) terrs.

The August 22nd thing? Read or link to all about it at Glenn Beck's site.
For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.

Whoop-ti-do, the forum for the rest of us...
