Lady Liberty Defended
You are the same as our enemies...
Pelosi Statement on Supreme Court Decisions on the Rights of Detainees
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions upholding the rule of law in the cases involving American-born detainee Yaser Esam Hamdi and the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba:
"The Supreme Court's decisions in the Hamdi case and the case involving the Guantanamo detainees are triumphs for the rule of law. The notion that the President has the unchallengeable authority to define the circumstances of a person's detention, especially that of a United States citizen, is contrary to our nation's history and experience.
"The right to counsel and the right to contest government actions in court are among our most cherished liberties. We cannot, and we must not, allow our civil liberties contained in the Constitution to become a casualty in the war on terrorism.
"The Supreme Court's decisions today are a timely reminder of the constant need to evaluate actions taken in the name of national security, no matter how well-intentioned those actions may be."
Nancy Pelosi and by extension the Democrats and a majority of the Supreme Court think that murdering, islamofacist, terrorists who are waging war on the United States are due the same "rights" as you. Perhaps she should speak the USMC about how they are treating 7 Marines and 1 US Navy Corpsman in Camp Pendleton. These traitors have decided that the courts should have the power, in wartime, of the Commander-in-Chief and that you and I are no better than those who would kill us and destroy our nation. Perhaps she's forgotten but I think it more likely that she just doesn't care! Perhaps she could explain that to the families of the World Trade Center jumpers photographed above.
Perhaps they should now find some way to explain these new nuances of combat to the fellow Marines of those two who were "captured" but apparently not accorded the rights of the Geneva Convention (to which the islamofacists are not signatories) and tortured before (?) beheading. We hanged Japanese officers for such behavior.
The thing is, if you still don't get it, what SCOTUS and the Dems are saying is that people who have declared war on us, the USofA, but aren't signatories to the Geneva conventions are due the same rights as combatants of signatories. Not that they, the islamofacists, extend those rights to their prisoners. They torture and/or behead their prisoners. No, that's apparently not the point. Neither is it important that the President of the United States actually serve as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces defending the country (and it's institutions and the individuals who serve in those institutions). What is
apparently important to these imbeciles is that, for the first time in all of recorded history, enemies of a state get treatment equal to that afforded the citizens of the country they are attacking. That's you. So now we have 8 servicemen who were held in worse conditions and given worse treatment than the detainees in Gitmo and nobody who is supposed to care about such things does.
Update on National CHP Reciprocity
From the VCDL Update:
2. A call from Senator Allen's office
VCDL members, you are a force to be reckoned with. Your calls and emails are making a difference! On Friday, Senator George Allen's office called to thank VCDL for supporting the Senator's bill, S.3275, which opens up nationwide recognition of CHPs. VCDL was also thanked for being a measured, reasoned voice countering the few
misguided gun groups which are trying to get the bill killed.
In the message from the Senator's aide, the Senator is seriously considering the suggestions made by VCDL to improve S.3275! (We are asking that the Federal Government recognize CHPs on it's land and in its buildings.)
For those groups against S.3275 because it supports *licensing* of a right (to carry concealed), that horse left the barn a long, long time ago. Forty-seven states already license concealed concealed carry in some form.
And for the argument that the bill is a 'Trojan Horse,' which could be used to put minimum restrictions on concealed carry states, I don't buy it. A new bill would have to be submitted and signed into law to do such a thing. And that could be done with or without S.3275 being passed into law and wouldn't make it without a major
fight from gun owners.
My question is this, "how many law-abiding CHP holders will have to be killed while travelling unarmed in non-reciprocal/non-recognition states before the nay-sayers support a bill like S.3275?"
VCDL has grabbed the torch and is leading the way.
If you have not yet contacted Senator Allen's office, please do so to show support for S.3275.
As I have said before, this is a major chance to move our ability to defend ourselves and our families forward by a huge step nationwide. DON'T let this opportunity pass us by and DON'T let any misguided or misinformed gun-groups torpedo this bill!
Here is contact information for Senator Allen:
Senator Allens web-based email:
Suggested copy-and-paste email to Senator Allen:
Dear Senator Allen,
Thank you for putting in S.3275! I appreciate your efforts to allow me to protect myself and my family in all 50 states!
I strongly urge you to extend the bill to require the Federal government to honor concealed handgun permits on all of its public lands and public buildings. That would solve the problem of the current ban on carrying in National Parks, Washington DC, etc. and it would also take away any hint of a 'do as I say and not as I do'
situation as the Federal government would be leading the way.
Please let me know what you are going to do.
Long Gone but...
I've been to Houston and Pensacola, good times.
Got to see my son. He should lay off the fast food but it sure was good to see him.
Attended June 24th service at Lakewood Church

By THOMAS WATKINS Associated Press Writer shows some of the tactics used to intimidate these Marines in an attempt at acquiring self-incriminating statements. Shackles removed from confined Marines, sailor
By Gidget Fuentes, Marine Times staff writer demonstrates that the stories about shackling are true. Wonder what the real reason is that the shackles can come off. Are these men suddenly less dangerous or less guilty or more politically connected.
Frankly, if I was arrested by military authority I would feel compelled to react as though I'd been captured by enemy forces. Name, rank and serial number are all they would get from me. It is sad that in today's world, Marines who defend the nation have less rights than the temporarily elected representatives in Congress.
From the second article,
David M. Brahms, a retired brigadier general and attorney in Carlsbad, Calif., who's met with many of the families, is representing a 21-year-old lance corporal.
The men are "shafted and shackled in the worst conditions being imposed," Brahms said June 14. "Saddam [Hussein] has a better circumstance than these guys."
One of Many Heros Returns Home...
Wounded veteran comes home today
by Robyn Moormeister
June 15, 2006 is about just one veteran from just on community but I think the reaction of his family is typical. I hope it is typical. Sometimes families have difficulties dealing with the stress that change(s) bring. I wish this and every other young hero the very best.
Of course I'm reminded of the movie, "The Best Years of Our Lives
". Aside from my abiding attraction to Teresa Wright, I thought the movie was a good one to point out the difficulties that combat veterans had in readapting to "normal" society. You might have noticed that it is difficult enough for servicemen to leave the regimented military life without experiencing combat. That so many of our veterans have managed, with the help and understanding of their families, to successfully re-enter our society is a testament to their character. I think it is also demonstrative of the overwhelming success of these men that the exceptions are so widely publicized.
Just as there was post-Vietnam we are hearing about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the "government's" failure to adequately treat it. I don't know if I believe this. Nearly all of the sources with this view of the subject are viruently anti-American, anti-war, anti-military and agenda driven. I'd like to hear from actual veterans as to their thoughts. Frankly that is the only opinion that counts.
Reflections on Father's Day
Yeah, I'm a father, and a grand-father, but that's not what this is about. Well maybe, in that I never lived up to my
view of my
My dad had emphysema and about 15 years earlier had fallen across a water bar while surveying timber and damaged his spine. If he did something to twist his spine the wrong way his digestive system would lock down and the gas would build up until the spine finally started processing info and the digestive system would start up again. This isn't good for emphysema patient as the digestive system pushes up against the diaphram and limits already limited oxygen intact.
Dad died June 28, 1999. I was holding his hand and my wife was with me (thanks dear). I'd been trying to wet his lips with an ice cube and encouraging him to keep breathing. It never occurred to me that he wouldn't stop fighting for life but he was struggling so hard. Every breath was a struggle and he would stop until I'd say, "just one more Dad, you can do it." He'd take another breath, I know
he was hearing me. But holding his hand, I just knew he didn't have it in him although he wouldn't quit, maybe so he wouldn't let me down. I told him it was ok, he could stop and he did. Of course I cried.
But his death took no time at all. His life had taken 72+ years. Dad had been a farmer (farm kid if you prefer), graduated high school at age 16, volunteered to serve in WWII as soon as he was able & been a soldier from 1945-1947 and again in 1950-1951, he had graduated from Syracuse University, earned a Masters degree in forestry from Yale, and earned the respect and friendship of hundreds of coworkers in the US Forest Service over 27 years of government service. He was married to my Mom for 45 years. He didn't lie, steal, cheat, speak badly about others, complain about his own situation, or shirk work. He helped his neighbors without asking, voted in every election, paid his taxes and debts on time, and raised 3 children.
Dad and Mom had me first followed 3 years and some months later by my sister and then 14 years after Sis by my brother. June 21, 1981, my brother was hit while crossing the street and died the next day. That was the first time I ever saw Dad cry. It was also the last.
I think my parents did a good job raising me. I was ready for the service and had no problem making a bed, polishing boots/shoes or being on time to anything. No problem taking orders either! I could speak well, read and write well, and didn't need constant supervision. That's success, as I've discovered, but I had no idea at the time.
Now most kids spend a lot of time with their mothers but I spent a lot of time with my dad as well. If he did any chores I was more than welcome to tag along. As he did things he'd explain what, why & how and if I was up to it I could help, at least in some small way. He'd let me try just about anything and would give me enough rope to ALMOST hang myself but never let me too close to that point. He'd introduce me to all the people he knew that we'd meet while doing these chores. What's more they would talk to me as if I had something to say. I guess the old saying about birds of a feather was true. In short my childhood was good.
Oh, yeah, Dad did "correct" me a time or two. But, I have to admit that I needed the "correction". I'm not quite certain whether it was because of my own character or Dad's that "corrections" seldom needed a second application! I'm thinking my character was the result of a lifetime of "corrections" most of which, particularly the early ones, are forgotten.
Lots of good times to remember and a great life resulted from his time with me. I'm very thankful Dad and I'm looking forward to seeing you again when I get to where you are.
Great Britains Can't be Glad Thieves get Just Desserts?
Fireball death crash: Merc was stolen from cop
Jun 14 2006 By James Glover, Liverpool Echo.
Ok so what's important about this story? That:
The car and an Audi A3 were stolen from the police officer's Little Altcar home after burglars took the keys, bank cards, cash and a warrant card.
Within hours both vehicles had been involved in horrific accidents.
The Mercedes crashed into a tree and burst into flames after leaving the Formby bypass, close to the Lighthouse roundabout, shortly after 1am.
A 16-year-old girl scrambled free from the wreckage despite serious injuries, but the driver died.
Police fear it could be weeks before the victim is formally named - his body was so badly burned DNA tests are needed to confirm his identity.
Nope, I think that it is good that the thieves of these cars suffered almost poetic justice. What concerns me is that the owner of the cars, Kenneth Scarth:
A POLICE officer could face disciplinary action over comments he reportedly made about the car thief who stole his Mercedes and died in a fireball crash.
That police officer? Why Mr. Scarth! What did he say that was so startling insensitive?
"I have no sympathy for them. I feel sorry for his parents and for the girl's parents, but not for them. I am not bothered about what has happened to them."
I suppose that in Great Britain, you are now not only unable to defend yourself you can't be glad that the bad guys who steal from you & destroy your property suffer for their misdeeds. Heck, you can't even be non-plussed by their misfortune.
It certainly seems that Great Britain is making every effort at self-destruction.
No Timetable on Iraq Pullout!
House Rejects Timetable for Iraq Pullout
In a 256-153 vote, the GOP-led House approved a nonbinding resolution that praises U.S. troops, labels the Iraq war part of the larger global fight against terrorism and says an "arbitrary date for the withdrawal or redeployment" of troops is not in the national interest. (The Associated Press)
I understand that the Dems were upset about this as the resolution made them pick sides. The Dems hate to pick sides, don't they? Of course I'm of the opinion that they don't mind picking the side that is AGAINST the USofA, but that's something else entirely, right? Notice that some of the Dems must have voted YES on the resolution. Want to know who? Here's the roll-call
In the interest of our republic, I'd suggest that you take a moment to collect yourself and let your representative know how you feel about his or her vote.
Muslims Killing Muslims, A-OK according to Zarqawi
Walid al-Jubouri lies injured in a hospital in Tikrit, accompanied by his friends, after gunmen stormed the Sunni Muslim bin Aqil mosque near Tikrit on Thursday, killing four people and wounding 15, according to police in Tikrit, Iraq Thursday, June 15, 2006. The 15 wounded in the attack on the Muslim bin Aqil mosque included fundamentalist cleric Abu al-Manar, who has spoken out against the killings of Iraqis. (AP Photo/Bassim Daham)
Yep, they'll even kill clerics they are such good Muslims. God bless them, every one. Well, it has come to light that along with all the other good stuff, the "treasure" of information
that permitted the capture and/or killing of many hundreds of Al Queda operatives in Iraq
, they got a document that admits we are winning and badly hurting the terrorists
. From the Associated Press via BrettBart.com...
The situation and conditions of the resistance in Iraq have reached a point that requires a review of the events and of the work being done inside Iraq. Such a study is needed in order to show the best means to accomplish the required goals, especially that the forces of the National Guard have succeeded in forming an enormous shield protecting the American forces and have reduced substantially the losses that were solely suffered by the American forces. This is in addition to the role, played by the Shi'a (the leadership and masses) by supporting the occupation, working to defeat the resistance and by informing on its elements.
As an overall picture, time has been an element in affecting negatively the forces of the occupying countries, due to the losses they sustain economically in human lives, which are increasing with time. However, here in Iraq, time is now beginning to be of service to the American forces and harmful to the resistance for the following reasons:
1. By allowing the American forces to form the forces of the National Guard, to reinforce them and enable them to undertake military operations against the resistance.
2. By undertaking massive arrest operations, invading regions that have an impact on the resistance, and hence causing the resistance to lose many of its elements.
3. By undertaking a media campaign against the resistance resulting in weakening its influence inside the country and presenting its work as harmful to the population rather than being beneficial to the population.
4. By tightening the resistance's financial outlets, restricting its moral options and by confiscating its ammunition and weapons.
5. By creating a big division among the ranks of the resistance and jeopardizing its attack operations, it has weakened its influence and internal support of its elements, thus resulting in a decline of the resistance's assaults.
6. By allowing an increase in the number of countries and elements supporting the occupation or at least allowing to become neutral in their stand toward us in contrast to their previous stand or refusal of the occupation.
7. By taking advantage of the resistance's mistakes and magnifying them in order to misinform.
Based on the above points, it became necessary that these matters should be treated one by one:
1. To improve the image of the resistance in society, increase the number of supporters who are refusing occupation and show the clash of interest between society and the occupation and its collaborators. To use the media for spreading an effective and creative image of the resistance.
2. To assist some of the people of the resistance to infiltrate the ranks of the National Guard in order to spy on them for the purpose of weakening the ranks of the National Guard when necessary, and to be able to use their modern weapons.
3. To reorganize for recruiting new elements for the resistance.
4. To establish centers and factories to produce and manufacture and improve on weapons and to produce new ones.
5. To unify the ranks of the resistance, to prevent controversies and prejudice and to adhere to piety and follow the leadership.
6. To create division and strife between American and other countries and among the elements disagreeing with it.
7. To avoid mistakes that will blemish the image of the resistance and show it as the enemy of the nation.
In general and despite the current bleak situation, we think that the best suggestions in order to get out of this crisis is to entangle the American forces into another war against another country or with another of our enemy force, that is to try and inflame the situation between American and Iraq or between America and the Shi'a in general.
Specifically the Sistani Shi'a, since most of the support that the Americans are getting is from the Sistani Shi'a, then, there is a possibility to instill differences between them and to weaken the support line between them; in addition to the losses we can inflict on both parties. Consequently, to embroil America in another war against another enemy is the answer that we find to be the most appropriate, and to have a war through a delegate has the following benefits:
1. To occupy the Americans by another front will allow the resistance freedom of movement and alleviate the pressure imposed on it.
2. To dissolve the cohesion between the Americans and the Shi'a will weaken and close this front.
3. To have a loss of trust between the Americans and the Shi'a will cause the Americans to lose many of their spies.
4. To involve both parties, the Americans and the Shi'a, in a war that will result in both parties being losers.
5. Thus, the Americans will be forced to ask the Sunni for help.
6. To take advantage of some of the Shia elements that will allow the resistance to move among them.
7. To weaken the media's side which is presenting a tarnished image of the resistance, mainly conveyed by the Shi'a.
8. To enlarge the geographical area of the resistance movement.
9. To provide popular support and cooperation by the people.
The resistance fighters have learned from the result and the great benefits they reaped, when a struggle ensued between the Americans and the Army of Al-Mahdi. However, we have to notice that this trouble or this delegated war that must be ignited can be accomplished through:
1. A war between the Shi'a and the Americans.
2. A war between the Shi'a and the secular population (such as Ayad 'Alawi and al-Jalabi.)
3. A war between the Shi'a and the Kurds.
4. A war between Ahmad al-Halabi and his people and Ayad 'Alawi and his people.
5. A war between the group of al-Hakim and the group of al-Sadr.
6. A war between the Shi'a of Iraq and the Sunni of the Arab countries in the gulf.
7. A war between the Americans and Iraq. We have noticed that the best of these wars to be ignited is the one between the Americans and Iran, because it will have many benefits in favor of the Sunni and the resistance, such as:
1. Freeing the Sunni people in Iraq, who are (30 percent) of the population and under the Shi'a Rule.
2. Drowning the Americans in another war that will engage many of their forces.
3. The possibility of acquiring new weapons from the Iranian side, either after the fall of Iran or during the battles.
4. To entice Iran towards helping the resistance because of its need for its help.
5. Weakening the Shi'a supply line.
The question remains, how to draw the Americans into fighting a war against Iran? It is not known whether American is serious in its animosity towards Iraq, because of the big support Iran is offering to America in its war in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Hence, it is necessary first to exaggerate the Iranian danger and to convince America and the west in general, of the real danger coming from Iran, and this would be done by the following:
1. By disseminating threatening messages against American interests and the American people and attribute them to a Shi'a Iranian side.
2. By executing operations of kidnapping hostages and implicating the Shi'a Iranian side.
3. By advertising that Iran has chemical and nuclear weapons and is threatening the west with these weapons.
4. By executing exploding operations in the west and accusing Iran by planting Iranian Shi'a fingerprints and evidence.
5. By declaring the existence of a relationship between Iran and terrorist groups (as termed by the Americans).
6. By disseminating bogus messages about confessions showing that Iran is in possession of weapons of mass destruction or that there are attempts by the Iranian intelligence to undertake terrorist operations in America and the west and against western interests.
Let us hope for success and for God's help.
This letter also shows that they will do, must do, anything that can create doubt in the minds of US citizens that we are doing the right thing. The terrorists know that they have a willing fifth column in the US and all they need to do is provide ammunition to these quislings. Indeed, the traitors are the terrorists' only hope... Seems to me that we have or are getting them right where we want them. Congratulations to all responsible for a job well done.
Call Murtha to the Stand
Marine may call Murtha as witness
... Washington Times reports, "A criminal defense attorney for a Marine under investigation in the Haditha killings says he will call a senior Democratic congressman as a trial witness, if his client is charged, to find out who told the lawmaker that U.S. troops are guilty of cold-blooded murder."
The defense should call this "Marine" to the stand. I can just see it now...
Defense Attorney, "Congressman Murtha, who told you these Marines had committed murder?"
Murtha, "Nobody told me that."
Defense Attorney, "So you lied?"
Of course that's too blunt and the actual exchange, should it happen, will probably include a lot of parsing by "Colonel" Murtha. Still, I'm all for it. It will make clear to one and all just what this man is.
And Illegal Immigrations aren't a Threat?
US arrests 55 illegal workers at Dulles airport
one of whom, "...had a security badge that grants unescorted access to the tarmac of the Virginia-based airport that serves Washington DC."
Get the illegals out of the country, NOW.
Have "They" Forgotten that these Men are Marines?
"This Is My Rifle"
The Creed of a US Marine
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I WILL...
My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. WE WILL HIT...
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. WE WILL...
Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY LIFE.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
And so we begin training what are arguably the world's finest warriors (although I wouldn't discount any other service for that honor!). Yet, those that fund this training, most notably EX-Marine Colonel John Murtha (and I use "EX" purposefully folks), have forgotten that and think they have trained some sort of pantywaist, social worker, political footballs. Rep. Murtha's behavior is particularly galling as he is not only abandoning his country's best interests in lieu of his own but he's also readily (it seems) abandoning young Marines. At least you could stand up for your own John.
There are now 8 good (presumably, they've not been charged with anything) Marines literally in SHACKLES in the brig at Camp Pendelton awaiting charges of murdering an Iraqi man (presumably as the NCIS won't tell anyone anything). Michelle Malkin has a pretty good summary on her blog
Then there are those Haditha has tainted by virtue of that great Marine and demoncrat, John Murtha. They haven't been charged either but at least, to my knowledge, they aren't in an 8x8 cell handcuffed to their bunks.
The worst thing in my mind is that more and more, like police officers here in the US, soldiers and Marines will be of the mind that taking action could very well land them in prison in worse conditions than those experienced by our enemies in detention in Gitmo. That second guessing as combat happens has killed cops and may kill soldiers and Marines. Proud of yourself Murtha?
Why Do "They" Pay Him?
Former President Rakes in $7.5 Million
according to BreitBart.com. I have to wonder just who pays the money. Surely it can't be socialists who don't believe we should have this much money (at least you and I shouldn't have a shot at this much money), right? Well it can't be the conservatives, they couldn't stomach paying Bill Clinton this much or ANY money for a speaking engagement. In 2005, the Clintons held one bank account valued between $5 million and $25 million and reported the same multimillion-dollar range for a separate blind trust. Now that's making politics pay. Good on you Bill. I guess whoever it is that's throwing this much cash at you to hear you talk must love you. It is always good to be loved...
Head Lice, a Friend for Life?
Head lice 'are becoming indestructible'
according to statements printed in the Daily Mail
. Seems the little buggers are evolving to be resistant to the treatments available over the counter, at least in Great Britain. This is good news (sarcastically speaking) for elementary school teachers in particular. Along with "pink eye" (conjuctivitis), this is one of the chronic problems teachers of elementary students have.
Scientists Speak out AGAINST Global Warming
Scientists respond to Gore's warnings of climate catastrophe
with, among other things this statement by Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University, in Australia, "Gore's circumstantial arguments are so weak that they are pathetic. It is simply incredible that they, and his film, are commanding public attention."
Stick a fork in it, its done.
It's Official, the Republicans are GODs!
Well, it must
be true, right? After all Bill Clinton says the Republicans are responsible
for the recent increase in major hurricanes...
I have to wonder at how the Dems can seriously think they have a shot with this sort of crap. I mean, the planet has been through cycles of warming and cooling, no doubt to extremes, without humans doing more than crapping and burping.
Of course the Dems are constantly being urged on by geniuses like Robert Redford
, Leonardo DiCaprio
, Kylie Minogue, Dido, Atomic Kitten, Coldplay, Lulu, Julian Lennon, Mis-teeq, Sugababes, Sting and Shaggy
, and others with no educational background what-so-ever to formulate such opinions much less foist those opinions on the rest of us.
Many of these folks, like our former President, blame the Republicans for this. Perhaps I've got it wrong though. Maybe they are really giving the Grand Old Party credit
, maybe the Republicans are GODs. In which case, I tell you, they ought to be re-elected. Would you vote against GOD?
I feel like Earl Pitts...
I've been reading a topic on a forum I moderate and it has got me in a right frame of mind. The subject is "Son wants to Join the Marines". "Advise" ranges from cheerleading and practical instruction to just shy of belittling service. This was my response to the naysayers:
If you want your son to be safe build him a nice little steel box and bring him his chow and wipe his butt for him. Otherwise he's going to be taking a chance just like the rest of us no matter what he does. It is called life. God has given us life for a reason and MEN live life they don't run from it. Whatever service he joins for whatever reason he's done more than 99% of other males his age. Be glad of it.
Frankly I will never understand anyone who can't praise God that their child has seen fit to defend this country. I know that if my son was to get up off his butt and enlist and then to be killed I would grieve BUT I would be so very proud as well. That my son would risk all his comforts, his dreams here in this life to protect us from evil so that we can continue to let freedom's light shine, well, that's all that I ever wanted.
Every day I thank God for those young men and women who leave home and their loved ones for extended periods to do what needs to be done in defense of this nation. I pray for their families to have the strength to deal with whatever may result. Were it not for such men and women we would not have what we have here in the USA.
Norwegian Meteorite Update
Not really, I don't read Norwegian but have a go at this report
New Orleans Police Chief (the new one) Doesn't Get It
Somebody tell this idiot, Superintendant of Police Warren Riley
, in New Orleans that it is his duty to ENFORCE the law not break it. Perhaps he has this belief in his perfunctory abilities to abuse the law because he rose through the ranks but it has got to stop. Maybe his officers will be smarter than that... maybe... oh well. You see he as said that his officers will confiscate guns
during the next emergency. The state of Louisiana passed a law to make this a criminal act but he persists. Well, they won't if you can prove it is yours. Sorry, he's got it backwards.
Dixie Chicks Former Fans Vote with their Wallets
The Dixie Chicks
might have been #1
during a time when there were no new album releases but their concert sales are in the dumper
. Funny thing but I don't hear them get air play either. I think I have seen them a couple of times on VH1 Country (maybe once, I'm not sure) but MTV/VH1 are distinctly liberal in their view.
So, why is all this important? I think because it shows us that there are consequences to our decisions. This 3 women chose to publicize their political opinions (ill-considered if you ask me) and alienated their fan base. While they were flying high just prior to the controversy that set off the rumpus, they aren't now. You see, despite the recent migration of country music (or should that be Country Music) to more urban and urbane markets, the vast majority of the fans are strongly conservative. Conservative means that they are strong supporters of home, family and country. I thought Natalie got that when she appeared on Trading Spaces
. Apparently not...
End Abuse of Eminent Domain & Support Private Property Rights
We've long accepted, generally speaking, the idea that the government (the people as a whole) should and can take property with reasonable compensation for the general welfare of the public for such things as necessary roads, schools, and critical infrastructure. Recently, most notably in New London, Connecticut
, that idea has been expanded to allow for condemnation of land which is in no way blighted for the purpose of transfer to a PRIVATE owner so that that private owner can develop it in such a way as to make the community more in tax money. In short, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) ruled that it was entirely allowable to steal from one taxpayer to give to another who promised to pay more taxes! I thought we fought a revolution over this sort of abuse of power.
Institute for Justice Kelo v. New London Lawsuit Challenging Eminent Domain Abuse in New London, Connecticut
Since the decision several other governments (apparently not of the people) have begun to do the same thing. Some states have moved to prohibit such use of eminent domain. What are you doing to prevent the theft of your property by the government?
Now, what is truly disgusting is that this decision by SCOTUS and the actions by these governments are promoted by LIBERALS. For the little fellow you say? Liar. This is just on demonstration of the liberal belief that there is no such thing as too much government and you are too stupid to manage your own property.

Record meteorite hit Norway
As Wednesday morning dawned, northern Norway was hit with an impact comparable to the atomic bomb used on Hiroshima.
Peter Bruvold witnessed the meteorite streaking across the night sky.
The map shows the meteorite's direction of fall (the arrow) and the possible impact area over Troms and Finnmark counties.
At around 2:05 a.m. on Wednesday, residents of the northern part of Troms and the western areas of Finnmark could clearly see a ball of fire taking several seconds to travel across the sky.
A few minutes later an impact could be heard and geophysics and seismology research foundation NORSAR registered a powerful sound and seismic disturbances at 02:13.25 a.m. at their station in Karasjok.
Farmer Peter Bruvold was out on his farm in Lyngseidet with a camera because his mare Virika was about to foal for the first time.
"I saw a brilliant flash of light in the sky, and this became a light with a tail of smoke," Bruvold told Aftenposten.no. He photographed the object and then continued to tend to his animals when he heard an enormous crash.
"I heard the bang seven minutes later. It sounded like when you set off a solid charge of dynamite a kilometer (0.62 miles) away," Bruvold said.
Astronomers were excited by the news.
"There were ground tremors, a house shook and a curtain was blown into the house," Norway's best known astronomer Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard told Aftenposten.no.
Røed Ødegaard said the meteorite was visible to an area of several hundred kilometers despite the brightness of the midnight sunlit summer sky. The meteorite hit a mountainside in Reisadalen in North Troms.
"This is simply exceptional. I cannot imagine that we have had such a powerful meteorite impact in Norway in modern times. If the meteorite was as large as it seems to have been, we can compare it to the Hiroshima bomb. Of course the meteorite is not radioactive, but in explosive force we may be able to compare it to the (atomic) bomb," Røed Ødegaard said.
The astronomer believes the meteorite was a giant rock and probably the largest known to have struck Norway.
"The record was the Alta meteorite that landed in 1904. That one was 90 kilos (198 lbs) but we think the meteorite that landed Wednesday was considerably larger," Røed Ødegaard said, and urged members of the public who saw the object or may have found remnants to contact the Institute of Astrophysics.

Ok, so what exactly did it do?
Oh My God, Zarqawi is Dead, LET'S RUN!
The left unable to say anything negative about the death of the unequivocaly evil al-Zarqawi have resorted to calling for immediate withdrawal from Iraq. To me it sounds as if just as we attain a tipping point where we will win this war against the terrorists in Iraq they want to derail that the only way they can by having us cut and run. Quislings. Still don't know what a quisling is? Look it up.
Ann Coulter, Cruel or Correct?
, the sharp-tongued, conservative, pundit, has been criticized for her criticism of the "Jersey Girls"
. Those 4 widows of 9/11 victims have received much money for their husbands' deaths AND been lauded in the mass media for their pursuit of hearings into why and how the US government "allowed" the terrorist attack to take place.
So is Ann cruel or is she correct? From my point of view she's right on although I'd not have used such language. These folks who promulgate their political views using their relatives' deaths seem to all be liberals, don't they? There is Cindy "Mother" Sheehan
whose son was killed in Iraq. That she left and was estranged from that son and has repeated the behavior with another son seems to matter not at all. Michael Berg's son Nick
was beheaded by the late Zarqawi and video was promulgated via the internet. I'm sure the list of these pitiful people goes on. I don't think that the fact that they have suffered such a personal (or not really so personal, huh Cindy?) loss absolves them from responsibility to tell the truth or to reason.
Al Zarqawi - Why Dead?
I've been listening to so MANY idiots today asking why Zarqawi was killed not captured, was he killed after capture, and so forth. These ideological morons are just plain ignorant about what a 500 lb bomb does.
Let's imagine you're sitting in your concrete/cinder block house with a concrete roof. A 500 lb bomb comes through the roof (because this is one way to sneak up on the SOB without endangering innocent locals) and you are more than a bit stunned. The USAF double-taps the target with a second 500 lb bomb and the house is pancaked. The local gendamarie shows up and "rescues" you from the rubble. EVERYONE else was KILLED by one of the two bombs. You are so injured you can't or won't resist. Then, horror of horrors, you look up and see your hated enemy, those that you fear more than any others, even more than the police that have put you on the stretcher and in a panic you roll off the stretcher onto the ground and collapse, then die. What killed you? Massive internal bleeding due to overpressure and/or blunt trauma caused by the bombs. It is a miracle you survived in the first place.
What in heck should we expect, that American soldiers should needlessly risk their lives and the lives of local Iraqi residents by attempting to capture this fellow? If they had the left would have made much of that as well. Frankly, I think it is so much crap from folks who haven't got much else going for them.
There's been a lot going on but Blogger has been down and I've been frustrated in my attempts to post. So much for my pitiful workarounds! This is a bit truncated due to that...
Anyone looked inside their Hershey bar wrapper lately. When you see a disclaimer in this venerable product that reads, "Candy is a treat. Please consume in moderation," don't you just know the nannies have been going at it too hard. EVERYONE knows that eating too much candy isn't good for you! I'm 51 and I remember my mother telling me this when I was 2!
The terrorist al-Zarqawi (doesn't that mean "from" or "of" "Zarqawi"? What is his real name anyway?) was killed 2 days ago. The USAF dumped 2 precision guided 500 lb bombs on his "safe" house. Way to go guys, GET SOME! Anyway, the response has been telling. When announced the Iraqi press CHEERED but the American press was non-plussed if not actually glum. Liberals have tried to spin this as wag-the-dog implying that it is an election ploy, that we knew where he was all along but did nothing until it suited the POTUS. Ladies and gentlemen, this was an EVIL man. He was so deluded and fearful that in his dying moments he tried to flee the US soldiers who would have made (and likely did) every attempt to save his life. He hadn't done so with the Iraqi police in whose care he already was so I don't think he was trying to safeguard any secrets.
Various New Yorkers (or is it just New York politicians?) are upset that Homeland Security cut their money this year. That last year's money was extra huge due to required capital improvements and such, that there was no need for that money because there was no place to spend it seems to matter not at all. Shouldn't we strengthen our other weaknesses? Should we abandon the rest of our nation and economy?
Immigration continues to be a hot topic. The POTUS still doesn't get it. In the 50th Congressional district of California (Kalifornia to some) a conservative Republican beat a liberal democrat (see "Don't Need no Stinkin' Papers, Say What?") while promoting his stance on immigration that opposes the President's. As you know, the POTUS has the same basic view as the Dems (well, they would prefer that we just naturalize everyone) so far as legislation goes. That CALIFORNIANS rejected the POTUS position speaks volumes for what we the people think. Why can't those idiot Senators get on board?

Fort Lewis Soldier Says He'll Refuse To Go To Iraq
and if LT Ehren Watada does, I think he ought to be courtmartialed just like any enlisted man would be. Send him to the castle and let him sit there for 10-15 years.
One can't have soldiers picking and choosing in which conflict they will participate IF civilians are to have authority over the military.

Remember Those Who Suffered for Our Sake
On this day, June 6, 1944 on the beaches of Normandy, France, many thousands of men of many nations took a great step forward in the fight against the evil of Nazi Germany. Many lost their lives on those beaches and nearby on this day. In doing their part, however small, however brief, they gave us the good life we enjoy today. We are forever in their debt.
Our heavenly father we come to you today in thanks and with a request.
On this day of the D-Day landings on the beaches of Normandy France in 1944, we thank you for all the fine young men and women who have stepped forward to protect us from evil in this world. We thank you for giving them strength and courage to risk their lives for us. We are reminded of the words of our savior Jesus Christ, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." As these men and women have done so for us, we are thankful beyond words' ability to express.
We ask that you look upon the families of those that gave and now risk their lives for us and give them comfort in the absence of their loved ones, courage to face their fears, and faith that your will be done and evil will be opposed. May your peace be upon them.
Mothers Ask Why
Cindy Sheehan asked President Bush, "Why did my son have to die in Iraq?"
Another mother asked President Kennedy, "Why did my son have to die in Viet Nam?"
Another mother asked President Truman, "Why did my son have to die in Korea?
Another mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt, "Why did my son have to die at Iwo Jima?"
Another mother asked President W. Wilson, "Why did my son have to die on the battlefield of France?"
Yet another mother asked President Lincoln, "Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?"
And yet another mother asked President G. Washington, "Why did my son have to die near Valley Forge?"
Then long, long ago, a mother asked... "Heavenly Father, why did my Son have to die on a cross outside of Jerusalem?"
The answers to all these are similar --
"That others may have life and dwell in peace, happiness and freedom." I can't credit this but I've seen it several places and think it an accurate explanation so I've posted it here.

Cuba can Sell Oil Leases 50 Miles Off U.S. Shores?
U.S. Concerned By Cuban Oil Drilling Off Coast
as reported by Fox News tells us that the Cubans (Fidel Castro) are selling oil drilling leases 50 miles off our, U.S. shores. Now, how can they do that when the states, such as Florida, won't permit drilling? This at a time when rapidly rising oil prices and foreign enemies such as Iran and Venezuela threaten our economy. We can't let this continue. We need to be drilling for this oil ourselves.
Don't Need No Stinkin' Papers to Vote, Say What?
Francine Busby, the Democratic candidate for the California 50th Congressional District
says she mis-spoke. Bull! She just got caught. Wanna hear her statement
? Sounds to me as though she differentiated between voting and helping. Unfortunately, she's pretty clear she's soliciting ILLEGAL ALIENS to both VOTE and WORK on her campaign. She can obfuscate all she wants, that is exactly what she's saying. By the way, the photo is from her 2004 campaign.

Hispanic Separatists, a Good Reason to say NO to Amnesty
Interview with Marcos Aguilar, by Maribel Santiago
demonstrates a certain separatism on the part of certain Hispanic immigrants. But perhaps they don't really want you to know
The point of course is that if they are coming into this country with the idea that they will carve out a piece of it, isn't that invasion? Isn't that an attack on the US. Clever, contrived, it might not be, a circumstance of mass economic need in a country that does nothing for its citizens (most of them) combined with unreasoning nationalism, perhaps. It still threatens US, the U.S. Don't believe it? Look at the photos.
Now we can argue (particularly Native Americans i.e. First Nations peoples) that this continent ain't theirs either! But let's not muddy the waters. You can see, clearly, that there is a cultural belief that this that we have built is theirs! Are we going to give it to them? If you ask President Bush, the Democrats and some Republican Senators the answer is yes. If you ask 78% of citizens or the House of Representatives the answer is NO.
Also amazing is WHO is a member of such organizations. One was a Lieutenant Governor of California! Talk about traitorous. Cruz Miguel Bustamante
was (?) a member of MEChA
is still alive and still promoting Hispanic dominance (portrayed as Nativist rights). The fight isn't over immigration, it is over control of our country.
American Service-people to be Charged in Unlawful Killings
Officers Likely to Be Charged in Haditha Killings, Sources Say (ABC News)
and Marines to Face Charges in Iraqi's Death, By SETH HETTENA
are harbingers of change to the military. Whether that change will be worthwhile or not remains to be seen. Likely it won't.
Why, well because the problems these incidents illustrate are symptomatic of our society. You see, all these incidents (including Abu Graib) have in common younger people who have less than strong feelings of right and wrong. Basic when I was growing up, we were shocked by LT Calley and My Lai, it seems less so now. Not that there aren't lots of good young people who are enlisting and being commissioned who embody the ideals of US citizenship, clearly those folks are in the majority as we are talking about only 30-40 service-people out of some 300-400 THOUSAND who've served in theater. However, the services have acknowledged having problems with gang culture infiltrating their units. Further, the services have a kinder, gentler basic training/boot camp and the mental "re-direction" that used to be so thorough is no doubt less so now. To then put such people in conflict with an absolutely brutal, uncompromising enemy (which is everyone else in the world) and still judge them by US CIVILIAN standards and we will inevitably have "failures" in behavior.
Here's my thought. I think there has been an ongoing wussification of society as a whole and young men and boys in particular. On the other hand, certain women's groups and educators have tried, to a point, to bring girls closer to the aggressive tendencies of young men all the while ridiculing men. Now we have a war. At first we lauded our male and female heroes. One could sense the collective sigh of relief as normal men and women felt a sea change back to the way things ought to be. Now, that can't be done and we can't get away with it. There are those who hate that we haven't submitted to the Islamo-facists and other socialist tyrants and know that enforcing the feminzation (with a "z" for a reason) is necessary to their success. So, when US, British or other soldiers kill other than proven enemy combatants it is always portrayed as the rule rather than the exception. Our brave young men and women are denigrated without pause.
However, at the same time, these same quislings
have managed to carefully ignore the fact that our enemies have not merely killed various and sundry including their beloved journalists, but also beheaded them, AND recorded it! They have ignored that these evil people have even beheaded their "friends" such as the peacenik from Virginia (and very close to where I live).
Make no mistake about it, people who do evil must be removed from society and that includes servicemen, servicewomen, police officers, congressmen and journalists. However, it seems that there are too many too eager to find evil where it doesn't exist.
Do They Really Want to Shoot the Chief of State?
Official Apologizes For Saying Bush Should Be Shot Between Eyes
is a perfect example of how Dems (specifically socialist Dems, the vast majority in the party) really do think these things and sometimes give voice to the idea. It is also illustrative of the I-think-like-this-so-you-must-too syndrome. These are the same folks who are dead set against citizens having guns. Curious.
