One Congressman Backs Down on Haditha
At least one Congressman has seen the error of his ways.
Congressman makes apology to Haditha marines Minnesota Republican Rep. John Kline, a retired Marine Corps colonel, issued a three-paragraph statement under a deal with lawyers for Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich, one of the Marines under investigation.
Is it any wonder that enlisted men and women see officers as mostly putting themselves in an elite class rather than as a group who simply have a different role to play? In every case, McCain/Murtha/Kline, these folks were officers. Now, I'm not one to hold a grudge. In fact, there are many good officers who serve their country and not themselves first but, every once in a while, ok, more than every once in a while, an officer shows himself to be the ass the priveleges have made him. Sad to say and very sad to see.
Note: To those who'd like to point out that officers must score over 110 on the GT and have completed college, there's LOTS more enlisted folks who meet those qualifications who are never commissioned. Also, there are lots of officers who barely meet the requirements just as most doctors didn't graduate in the top 50% of their class...
