  Katrina Aftermath
Lots of buzz about the anniversary of Katrina. All the complaining seems to come from New Orleans. I'm afraid that while I feel badly for the people who live there I recognize that it was their votes that put in place the government at the state and local level that can't accomplish anything.

My wife and I had been through the gulf coast just prior to Katrina and went across on 98 this summer as well. What a difference! But, in Mississippi, the trash was mostly cleaned up while in Louisiana it was mostly still there. My wife is from the Pensacola area and noted that nobody is talking about Ivan and that aftermath. They are still recovering from that and a follow-on Cat I the next year. Ivan of course was 2 years ago.

Those folks chose to live there, they chose to have their houses as and where they are and they took a chance. Some lost. That's life. Life is to be tested and to learn. Do so and go on.

For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.
