Have "They" Forgotten that these Men are Marines?
"This Is My Rifle"
The Creed of a US Marine

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I WILL...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. WE WILL HIT...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. WE WILL...

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY LIFE.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace
!
And so we begin training what are arguably the world's finest warriors (although I wouldn't discount any other service for that honor!). Yet, those that fund this training, most notably EX-Marine Colonel John Murtha (and I use "EX" purposefully folks), have forgotten that and think they have trained some sort of pantywaist, social worker, political footballs. Rep. Murtha's behavior is particularly galling as he is not only abandoning his country's best interests in lieu of his own but he's also readily (it seems) abandoning young Marines. At least you could stand up for your own John.

There are now 8 good (presumably, they've not been charged with anything) Marines literally in SHACKLES in the brig at Camp Pendelton awaiting charges of murdering an Iraqi man (presumably as the NCIS won't tell anyone anything). Michelle Malkin has a pretty good summary on her blog.

Then there are those Haditha has tainted by virtue of that great Marine and demoncrat, John Murtha. They haven't been charged either but at least, to my knowledge, they aren't in an 8x8 cell handcuffed to their bunks.

The worst thing in my mind is that more and more, like police officers here in the US, soldiers and Marines will be of the mind that taking action could very well land them in prison in worse conditions than those experienced by our enemies in detention in Gitmo. That second guessing as combat happens has killed cops and may kill soldiers and Marines. Proud of yourself Murtha?

For us, the American ideal is personified in the concept of self-reliance, work ethic, honesty/forthrightness, decency, personal property rights, family, religion, an ability to defend oneself from criminals and crooked politicians, and personal responsibility.

Whoop-ti-do, the forum for the rest of us...
