There's been a lot going on but Blogger has been down and I've been frustrated in my attempts to post. So much for my pitiful workarounds! This is a bit truncated due to that...
Anyone looked inside their Hershey bar wrapper lately. When you see a disclaimer in this venerable product that reads, "Candy is a treat. Please consume in moderation," don't you just know the nannies have been going at it too hard. EVERYONE knows that eating too much candy isn't good for you! I'm 51 and I remember my mother telling me this when I was 2!
The terrorist al-Zarqawi (doesn't that mean "from" or "of" "Zarqawi"? What is his real name anyway?) was killed 2 days ago. The USAF dumped 2 precision guided 500 lb bombs on his "safe" house. Way to go guys, GET SOME! Anyway, the response has been telling. When announced the Iraqi press CHEERED but the American press was non-plussed if not actually glum. Liberals have tried to spin this as wag-the-dog implying that it is an election ploy, that we knew where he was all along but did nothing until it suited the POTUS. Ladies and gentlemen, this was an EVIL man. He was so deluded and fearful that in his dying moments he tried to flee the US soldiers who would have made (and likely did) every attempt to save his life. He hadn't done so with the Iraqi police in whose care he already was so I don't think he was trying to safeguard any secrets.
Various New Yorkers (or is it just New York politicians?) are upset that Homeland Security cut their money this year. That last year's money was extra huge due to required capital improvements and such, that there was no need for that money because there was no place to spend it seems to matter not at all. Shouldn't we strengthen our other weaknesses? Should we abandon the rest of our nation and economy?
Immigration continues to be a hot topic. The POTUS still doesn't get it. In the 50th Congressional district of California (Kalifornia to some) a conservative Republican beat a liberal democrat (see "Don't Need no Stinkin' Papers, Say What?") while promoting his stance on immigration that opposes the President's. As you know, the POTUS has the same basic view as the Dems (well, they would prefer that we just naturalize everyone) so far as legislation goes. That CALIFORNIANS rejected the POTUS position speaks volumes for what we the people think. Why can't those idiot Senators get on board?
