Dixie Chicks Former Fans Vote with their Wallets
The
Dixie Chicks might
have been #1 during a time when there were no new album releases but their
concert sales are in the dumper. Funny thing but I don't hear them get air play either. I think I have seen them a couple of times on VH1 Country (maybe once, I'm not sure) but MTV/VH1 are distinctly liberal in their view.
So, why is all this important? I think because it shows us that there are consequences to our decisions. This 3 women chose to publicize their political opinions (ill-considered if you ask me) and alienated their fan base. While they were flying high just prior to the controversy that set off the rumpus, they aren't now. You see, despite the recent migration of country music (or should that be Country Music) to more urban and urbane markets, the vast majority of the fans are strongly conservative. Conservative means that they are strong supporters of home, family and country. I thought Natalie got that when she appeared on
Trading Spaces. Apparently not...
